Although Firefox often uses the Windows default email program to open email links, changing the settings will make Gmail the default:

Step 1 Open a window in Firefox.

Step 2 Click Open Menu in the upper right corner of the window.

 

Step 3 Choose Options.

Step 4 From the General tab, go to the Applications section.

Step 5 Type “mailto” in the Content Type search box and select it from the list of results.

 

Step 6 Select the drop-down arrow to the right of Use Mail and choose “Use Gmail”.

The changes will be saved automatically and you can now use your Gmail account by default.

How to Set Gmail as Default Email Service with Microsoft Edge

Microsoft Edge uses the Windows e-mail default setting. While there is no direct way to choose Gmail as the default email client in Microsoft Edge; You can set Gmail as the default email program in Google Chrome and then choose Chrome as the default for all emails.

On Windows 10:

  • Type default in the Windows search box and select “Default Application Settings” in the list of results.
  • Under Select Default Applications, select Email.

 

In Windows 7 or 8:

  1. Select start
  2. Select Control Panel.
  3. Choose Programs.
  4. Select Default Programs.
  5. Select Associate a file type with a program.
  6. Under Protocols, select MAILTO.

After following these steps; On the page that opens, select Google Chrome and close the window. When you click on an email link in Microsoft Edge, a new Google Chrome browser window will open with Gmail.
